Throughout the new year, the anticipation of the new moon starts in the search of creasent so that the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan can officially be announced. It is the beginning of the lunar month in the islamic calendar when the auspicious festivities of religious activities begin. Official first day of Ramadan is signified by the new moon. The month begins with the sighting of the crescent, the ending is also announced by the sight of the crescent. Moon sighting committees throughout the world sit and gather for the purpose of spotting the crescent and declaring the results. Moon sighting is a bit tricky due to the fact that the new moon is visible of only certain twenty-something minutes and it is quite faintly visible due to being thin.
