Ramadan falls on the 9th month of the Islamic calendar and is a period of profound importance and emotion for Muslims globally. It also garners respect from people of other faiths. During this sacred month, it’s crucial for us to reflect on whether our fasting has deepened our gratitude for the blessings we have received or if it simply resembled a hunger strike. Concerningly, many of us spend these days fasting but then just sleep through them, missing the essence of fasting entirely. Fasting isn’t about suffering through hunger; it’s about humility and engaging in our daily activities, recognizing that this act is not a punishment but a privilege awarded to us by none other than the Almighty Allah. Fasting should be seen as a source of spiritual purification. If we complement our fasts with continuous acts of kindness throughout the day, the reward for our efforts is magnified tenfold.
So let’s seize this opportunity as nobody can be certain of the next year. We are not even certain of the next moment the next breath. How can we be certain of the next time that we will live to experience Ramadan again or not? Such is the life of humans so uncertain yet so carefree. How can we afford to lose any opportunity so carelessly?
